Sublimation Printing

Sublimation printing uses heat and pressure to convert dye from a solid state directly into a gas, which then bonds permanently into the polyester fibers of the fabric. Because the dye becomes part of the fiber rather than sitting on its surface, the color is exceptionally vibrant and will not crack, peel, or fade.

How It Works

   The design is printed onto special transfer paper using sublimation ink

   The paper is placed face-down onto the polyester fabric

   Heat (approximately 200°C) and pressure are applied for a set dwell time

   The solid ink converts to gas and penetrates the open polyester fibers

   As the fabric cools, the fibers close and lock the dye in permanently

Limitations

• Requires 100% polyester or high-polyester-blend fabric
• Only effective on white or very light-colored base fabrics
• Cotton, linen, and natural fibers will not hold sublimation dye
• Creasing or pressure marks can appear if the fabric moves during heat application
• Not suitable for dark-colored garments

Technical Difference vs. Inkjet Printing

Standard inkjet printing deposits an ink layer on top of the fabric. Sublimation, by contrast, transforms the ink into a gas that becomes part of the fiber itself. This is why sublimation prints have no texture or raised surface — the color is inside the fabric, not on it.
